Religious tours to Armenia
The Armenian Apostolic Church is one of the oldest Christian churches in the world. Christianity was born here in the 2nd – 3rd centuries. In 301 Armenia became the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as an official religion. The forefathers of Christianity in Armenia were apostles: Thaddeus and Bartholomew (1st century), who had been tortured to death. However, the most important role in adoption of Christianity in Armenia belongs to Gregory the Illuminator. In his honor Armenian Church received another name which can often be found in literature: “Gregorian” or “Armenian Gregorian”. This conditional name has been in use since 1836. Thanks to the preaching Gregory Illuminator, Armenian king Trdat (287-330 A.D.) and his family were the first who had been christened, after which Christianity was announced as an official religion of the country.
