Day 1: Hanoi – Ba Be Lake

Day 2: Ba Be Lake – Na Hang – Bac Me – Ha Giang

Day 3: Ha Giang full day Trek

Day 4: Ha Giang – Dong Van

Day 1 Hanoi - Ba Be Lake (L, D)

Our guide and driver pick you up at your hotel in Hanoi. The journey begins as we depart the town and pass through the undulating terrain of tea plantation and the many timeless villages linked to the road which is the main artery of trade between the northeastern region and the capital city. This is our first glimpse of rural Vietnam and sets the tone for the days ahead. Depending on road and traffic conditions our drive will leave us with a mid to late afternoon arrival in Ba Be lake. After checking into Mr Linh’s homestay we will have free time to walk around or simply to relax on the lake.

Day 2 Ba Be Lake - Na Hang - Bac Me - Ha Giang (B, L, D)

The national park of Ba Be is centred on large Ba Be Lake. This is just one continuous water body although its name means ”three lakes”. Today, we embark on our boat navigating around the lake, which gives us a taste of relaxation and an enjoyable visit to the park. Along the way, we make stopover at some hill tribe villages before getting off the beaten track to the Dau Dang Waterfall. After a short walk down to the waterfall, we start our trek to Na Hang Lake. Lunch will be served by the waterfall or somewhere else advised by our guide on spot. After lunch we will take the boat again to cruise along the river till we reach Bac Me where our vehicle is ready to pick us up and transfer to Ha Giang. Dinner and overnight in a homestay in Ha Giang.

Day 3 Ha Giang Full Day Trekking (B, L, D)

We set off and trek to the village Nam Hong (5-6 hours). You have the chance to contemplate the beauty of the rice terraces, mountains and bamboo forests. Ethnic minorities such as Man and Ta Pan Dao live in the region. We will have a picnic lunch and continue the journey to the remote village of Ta Pan Man . On the route, you can see farmers working in the fields and there may be the opportunity to experience some their work at first hand. Come back homestay for dinner and overnight at village.

Day 4 Ha Giang - Dong Van (B, L, D)

As the area is under military control, so you have to buy a travel permit in Ha Giang , the guider will help you . Then we take a dramatic first route, Via Dong Van a succession of passes and deep valleys. Lunch in the small mountain town of Tam Son. Through the forest of pines, visit the Hmong King's Palace built by Vuong Chinh Duc King in northeastern Vietnam. After independence, he was evacuated in 1950 (his descendants now live in France and Cananda) . Arrive at Dong Van around 18h. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight at the hotel.

Day 5 Dong Van - Cao Bang (B, L, D)

After breakfast , visit the day market of Dong Van meets only on Sunday. Market is where the local people come to sell and buy or exchange the local product made by home. Then climb to the top of the above, the French fort Pu Lo , built in 1890 , discharged in 1945 and perfectly preserved . At 2000 meters, the Ma Pi Leng Pass ( The horse's nose ) offers spectacular views of the valleys with terraced fields of hemp . Down the valley of Meo Vac then travel to Bao Lac for lunch, travel to Cao Bang where we spend the night at the hotel.

Day 6 Cao Bang - Ban Gioc Waterfall - Lang Son (B, L, D)

After breakfast, you’ll visit the Ban Gioc Waterfall on the China-Vietnam border, 85km from Cao Bang, passing through attractive scenery en-route. Ban Gioc is one of the largest and possibly the most impressive waterfalls of Vietnam. After a picnic lunch, you’ll visit Nguom Ngao, one of the largest caves in the area. It has many fascinating shapes and formations of stalactites. From there, you’ll head back to Cao Bang then Lang Son with time to relax before dinner and your overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 7 Lang Son - Ha Long Bay (B, L, D)

4 hours travel from Lang Son to Ha Long bay. Upon arrival we embark on our boat and enjoy a real Vietnamese lunch. We sail past the main sights in Ha Long Bay, and in the afternoon set anchor to explore Sung Sot (Surprising) cave. There is time to kayak or swim and relax on deck watching the sunset. You can enjoy a splendid dinner followed by drinks, karaoke or fishing, whichever you prefer.

Day 8 Ha Long - Lan Ha Bay - Cat Ba Island (B, L, D)

If you are an early riser you can enjoy the sunrise on Ha Long Bay. You will travel by boat to Gia Luan harbour on Cat Ba Island, and then drive through Cat Ba National Park, enjoying the tropical flowers and trees along the way. From Ben Beo harbour, you will go by boat through Lan Ha Bay visiting Cai Beo floating village, one of the oldest in Vietnam.

Check in at Monkey Island Resort and enjoy lunch in the beach restaurant. In the afternoon you are free to kayak, play football or volleyball, or you may prefer the entertainment area with chess, billiards, ping pong, or table football. There is a lovely walk up the mountain to get a panoramic view of Monkey Island and Lan Ha Bay, and you may see monkeys playing on the beach. Overnight at your bungalow.

Day 9 Cat Ba Island - Hanoi (B, L)

Beach exercise or swimming are a good (but not compulsory!) way to start the morning on Monkey Island. After breakfast we check out and transfer by boat to Cat Ba town. A bus will take you to Gia Luan pier where you embark on the boat back a different route to Ha Long Bay, a last chance to enjoy the amazing islets and dramatic scenery. Say goodbye to the crew, disembark and drive back to Hanoi.
